Pokhara

Working around the Strike schedule, we arrive in Lakeside Pokhara, on April 10th, a car ride away (some four hours) from Lumbini, planning to spend a few days enjoying the sites of Pokhara. We had made this arrangement to be able to take in the New Year's Festival on April 14th also.

Pokhara is nestled beneath the serene guard of the Annapurna mountain rangew. It is like a 'chilled-out' version of Thamel. It is a laid-back atmosphere offering a variety of adventure-sports, i.e., paragliding, rafting and trekking. It seems the Pokhara has a strong claim to the title of Nepal's premier tourist town.

There are two Pokharas, the first is Lakeside, settled along the calm waters of the stunning Phewa Tal. Lakeside offers tourists a perfect place to recharge batteries, after a trek, or preparing for a trek, with its beautiful garden restaurants, lively bars, internet cafes and coffee and pastry shops.

Second, the Old Pokhara is where you'll find how life was before the hippy trail stumbled upon its pristine surroundings. The Old Pokhara offers charming Newari architecture and a bustling Nepali vitality.
