Today, April 12th, after a lovely breakfast of anything we wanted,
included in our room fee, we headed out for a boat ride across the calm
waters of Phewa Tal to walk to the World Peace Pagoda. Balanced on a
narrow ridge high above the Phewa Tal, thebrillant white World Peace Pagoda
was constructed by Buddhist monks from the Japanese Nipponzan Myohoji
organization to promote world peace. There are three paths up to the
Pagoda. We hired a canoe to cross the lake, a luxury, to promote local
economy. We chose the direct route, approximately one hour, of walking
straight up on the hillside on cut stone steps, through the woodland to
reachthe ridge just west of the Pagoda. It was truly a magnificent sight,
the Pagoda, as was the view of Lakeside. It was well-worth the gruelling
(again, hot) climb up.
