flying to Lukla

Everyone has heard of the world's highest mountain and that is the reason why the Everest Bast Camp Trek is so popular. The Trek has a number of stunning attractions, which we certainly did see. The Trek gets you right into the high-altitude heart of the high Himalaya, more so than any other tea house Trek. There are some lovely villages, gompas (monasteries, Buddhist and friendly Sherpa people of the Solu Khumbu region.

After an approximately 40-minute plane ride filled with turbulence as you fly through the mountains, feeling as though you are going to fly into one, we land in Lukla on a 60-foot sloped runway.

Unbeknownest to us, for the next two weeks, we would not see a bike, motorcycle or car and that the only mode of transportation would be by foot, by yak, by the odd mule, depending upon your weight, or by a horse.
