AFter talking with several people who had completed the Trek, we decided that we had better purchase good sleeping bags and walking sticks in Kathmandu. Luckily for us, we met an extraordinary couple from England who had just returned from a Trek. They directed us to a good shop (amongst the, what seemed like hundreds of trekking shops,)where we purchased good down sleeping bags and excellent walking sticks for our
Trek. While buying these items, we found a wonderful restaurant which provided excellent, inexpensive food in a wonderful atmosphere.
Following our purchases, we headed back to the Manang Hotel to meet our Trekking Guides and Group to receive any necessary information in preparation for the beginning of our Trek. We also needed to get our bags for the Porters in which we were allowed to pack 12 kilos per bag. In addition, we needed to have a Day Pack to carry our snacks for the day and our water for the day, sometimes five litres per person, depending on the length of trekking for the day. Following an introduction to the Guides and the Group Members, we became a group of nine persons that were going
to be together for some 15 days.
Leaving our backpacks in the Hotel storage, we filled our Porter bags with clothing, sleeping bags and walking sticks, approximately 12 kilos and carrying our day packs, we left for the Airport around 7:30 a.m. Sitting in the Airport, we waited approximately for 2.5 hours due to the weather, before we boarded the small aircraft to fly to Lukla.
